Kerry Karam
Development Worker (Grampian)(maternity cover)
Kerry grew up on a small island in Shetland. When she left school at the end of S6 she spent a year as a volunteer teacher in Pakistan before studying Production and Technical Stage Management at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. The next few years were spent back in Shetland – where she worked as a lighting designer and stage manager in the local theatre and in various venues around the islands – extensively with youth drama groups. During this time Kerry was also employed as the development manager for Shetland Youth Information Service where she worked closely with both the client base and with the project’s volunteers.
With the end of this contract came the desire to travel again and Kerry undertook a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Barcelona before moving to Germany to teach business English in Koblenz.
It was during her time in Germany that Kerry realised the need to return to university and attempt a more academic degree course. She graduated with an MA in English Language and Linguistics with Philosophy from the University of Aberdeen and went on to complete her MLitt in Sociolinguistics in 2010.
