Andrea Finlayson
Development Worker

Andrea was born and brought up in the Highlands of Scotland, leaving the area at 17 to attend the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, where she attained her first degree in Publishing Studies from the School of Information and Media.  After a short spell working in the oil and gas sector, Andrea moved on to take up the role of Manager at a small digital printing firm back in the Highland Region where, alongside the design and production of promotional and printed material for a variety of clients, Andrea further developed from this a secondary complimentary business selling arts and crafts media and products.

After several years however, fuelled by her upmost passion for Scottish History, Andrea returned to study for her second degree in Scottish History, working part time at Urquhart Castle, where she was involved in the initial development and then delivery of tours at the monument as one of the original members of the “Guiding Team”.  Andrea has subsequently completed a Masters in the “History of the Highlands and Islands”.

As well as her role as Development Worker with ASPIRENorth, Andrea also teaches part time in both the Higher Education and Further Education spheres at Inverness College UHI and believes passionately in both the facilitation of, and the rewards gained, by the embrace of lifelong learning – a good thing since it will soon be back to study for her too!
